Dear Victor,

The drops of rain have become a flood and the flood is now a torrent. I am drowning in teddy bears, clothes, shoe boxes and money. As a one man band in the UK I cannot be in three places at once. The Tenterden Operatic and Dramatic Society are putting on a show at 8.0 pm on Monday 2nd December in aid of the Children of Chernobyl. St. John's Ambulance are presenting a soft toy collection at 3.0 pm the same day. A coffee morning by village young people collected over 200 dollars last week. Retired pensioners are handing over 10 dollars in the street plus this morning's massive anonymous donation. There is so much good will towards Chernobyl that I think the doctors should be told about it - they are not forgotten.

I would like to visit the Polyclinic No. 2, The Young Childrens' Nursery No. 25, Dr. Pasechnik's Centre and perhaps Hoscha and Ostrohetz if possible. First, to check that they have received what was sent and secondly, to determine future needs more accurately, then I can report back to those who have donated.

My Theatre Sister has given me a personalised parcel of Olga (pancreas cancer) and her parents and which I am commanded to present myself to her and Theatre Sisters have to be obeyed!

I would like to question Drs. Pasechni, Yakubova and Zenchenko about the statistics of radiation disease in more detail. Also would it be possible to speak to pathologists in Kiev or other centres about the Chernobyl syndrome? Have they brain specimens to demonstrate the effect of radiation? Very little is known about it here.

There is so much to do and so little time. Progress is being made and people are responding. Have you Church literature translated into Ukrainian? Could a booklet be written specifically for Ukrainians focussing on their difficulties of poverty and hardship as opposed to our difficulties of overproduction and comfort. Just thoughts because I feel there is a window of opportunity in the Eastern bloc.

I am looking forward to our return immensely. I understand it is minus 5 in Ukraine.

Best wishes.
Maurice
