A VAN FOR WADE MALWITZ

Project Complete – Wade’s New Van is a Reality!

September 8, 2004                     The Original Story

In March of this year when we began fundraising for Wade’s van, it seemed a bit overwhelming.  But thanks to the generosity of LifeNets in taking this project on, and the many individuals, businesses, and civic organizations, as well as the Sherburne County CADI Program, Wade now has his new van.

We have many people to thank along the way.  First of all, this project could not have happened without LifeNets. Thank you for making this a featured project on your LifeNets web site. By far, the largest amount of funds for the van came from donations to LifeNets.  And thank you to all the generous donors. Your help has made such a difference in Wade’s quality of life.

Getting things adjusted in the van so it fits him, his wheel chair, etc.

Besides the many individuals, who will remain anonymous, we would also like to thank several businesses. The Lorie Line organization kicked off the fundraising effort by donating 30 tickets (worth $40 each) to her Monticello concert on April 27, as well as four lovely CDs, which we auctioned off at a silent auction. We sold all 30 tickets, and everyone had a great time at the concert. Thanks Lorie Line.

We would like to thank the Elk River Wal-Mart and Elk River Target Stores, The Bank of Elk River, the Elk River Lion’s Club, and the United Church of God, St. Paul, for their generous donations.

The job's not done until the paperwork is finished.

Here are the keys

Special thanks go to friends of Wade who organized a bake sale at the Elk River Wal-Mart, along with Wade, and all the ladies who baked yummy items to sell.  Thank you to the Elk River Wal-Mart for your support, and manager, Pete Renier.

I would like to thank you for your help in obtaining a new van.  It has been a humbling and inspiring blessing from God from the very start when Mary Burke first approached me about a van.  I wasn't even thinking of a new van but God had plans in providing me with a van.  How wonderful and awesome our Benefactor truly is.

Again I thank you and everyone who has helped in this project.

Dan McCoss assisted Wade in obtaining funding from the Sherburne County CADI program.  They paid for all of the modifications to the van to make it handicap accessible, including the wheelchair lift, lowered floor, automatic tie-downs, hand controls, etc.  Thank you, Dan, for your help and support.

The new van is so much easier for Wade to use. He can sit in his wheelchair right behind the steering wheel, anchored by automatic tie-downs, and doesn’t have to transfer into a seat. What a difference from the effort he had to go through to drive before.  Wade appreciates all the help from friends far and wide, as well as strangers with a kind heart, who came together to make his life better.  THANK YOU.
