 Children of Chernobyl physician to review 10 ton medical relief shipment from Central and Western Indiana Hoosiers for child victims of nuclear plant disaster, recognize Hoosier Girl Scouts for donations

WHO:  Vasil Pasechnik, M.D., a pediatric specialist who serves as director of the Centre for Medical and Social Rehabilitation of Disabled Children near Chernobyl, Ukraine.  Dr. Pasechnik founded the Centre to care for seriously ill children who later developed major physical and psychological ailments after being exposed to radiation following the explosion of the Chernobyl power plant. 

WHAT:          LifeNets, an international relief organization, has collected and shipped almost 100 tons of relief supplies to needy people since 1996 and is sponsoring the visit of Dr. Pasechnik to the United States to help raise awareness of the Chernobyl children’s continuing plight.  Working with the Lighthouse Mission, other volunteer groups and churches in Central Indiana, LifeNets is preparing to ship 10 tons of medical supplies, equipment and children’s clothing to the Chernobyl region after Labor Day.  Dr. Pasechnik will be traveling to the warehouse outside of Fillmore, Indiana to review progress and to honor the members of Indianapolis Girl Scout Troop 358, who prepared diaries and gifts for the children victims of Chernobyl.
